What is Structural Integration?

Structural Integration (SI) is a scientifically validated method of improving the body’s structure by direct manipulation of the soft tissues, specifically collagen fibre or ‘fascia’. SI was developed by Dr Ida P Rolf in the USA in the latter half of the 20th Century and is now practiced all over the world.

In it’s most common form, SI is a series of ten sessions which progress towards the ultimate goal of standing the body in alignment in gravity. When this is achieved the person feels energized, chronic pain can often disappear and good posture is effortless. The body becomes more flexible, breathing is improved and the person can feel a lot more at ease with themselves.

A series of SI is an extremely positive experience, the focus of the sessions will be on what is good about the recipients structure and how the good aspects can be built upon. Even though the recipient’s history will be investigated and noted the series will be concerned with the future of that person, what it is possible to do with them and how much their body can be changed in ten sessions of SI.

The basic ten series can be built on by regular ‘mini series’ of 3 sessions designed to help the person to progress beyond the original ten series.  After time when the person has gone as far as they can in this format they are ready to receive an advanced series of five sessions.  The advanced series brings a whole new level of awareness of their body to the person, encouraging them to take responsibility for their own structure and the way it functions.

The ultimate aim of SI is to produce not only a body that is prepared to accept the gravitational field, but one that orders itself through awareness of the consciousness.
