What is Structural Integration?

Structural Integration is a method of improving the body's relationship with gravity by direct manipulation of collagen fibre or 'fascia', it is a method developed by Dr Ida P Rolf in the USA in the latter half of the 20th Century and is now practiced all over the world.

In it's most common form, Structural Integration is a series of ten sessions which progress towards the ultimate goal of standing the body in alignment in gravity. When this is achieved the person;

  • feels energized
  • chronic pain may often disappear
  • good posture is effortless
  • the body becomes more flexible
  • breathing mechanics are improved
  • the person may feel a lot more at ease with themselves

Structural Integration is not intended as treatment of a specific symptom or pain, the intention of the practitioner in a series of Structural Integration is to realign the body with the field of gravity by taking a person through ten systematically designed progressive goals.

The effects are long lasting and can continue to progress for up to a year after the series is finished. For people who wish to take the experience further the basic ten series can be built on by regular 'mini series' of 3 sessions designed to help the person to progress. After time when the person has gone as far as they can in this format they are ready to receive an advanced series of five sessions. The advanced series brings a whole new level of awareness of their body to the person, encouraging them to take responsibility for their own structure and the way it functions.

The ultimate aim of Structural Integration is to produce not only a body that is prepared to accept the gravitational field, but one that orders itself through awareness of the consciousness.
