What do we do?
Future Perfect Office Solutions is a consultancy service helping individuals and companies improve their performance by conducting workstation assessments aimed at keeping the user comfortable in their home or in the office. Our specific aim is to help identify the ergonomic causes of discomfort and reduce the risks of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) for computer or display screen equipment workers
Every year 11.6 million days are lost in the UK to MSDs, many of these can be attributed to poor practice while working with visual display units (VDUs) or unsuitable working environments. By improving the standard of the working environment and educating the user on how to best approach their given tasks it is possible to improve their performance, reduce absence and increase comfort throughout the day.
Poor practice in respect to DSE use can result in:
- MSDs – back, neck pain, shoulder pain, upper limb disorders, carpal tunnel syndrome. These are the most common problem associated with work in the UK today, resulting in a cost of £5billion.
- Fatigue and Stress – This is the second most common form of occupational ill health in the UK today and can lead to physical/mental illness or behavioural changes such as excessive drinking or smoking. These psychosocial risks to the DSE user can be helped by “careful design, selection and arrangement of display screen equipment (DSE); good design of the user’s workplace, environment and task; and training, consultation and involvement of the user” (HSE)
- Eyesight – Medical research shows that there is no risk of permenant eyesight problems from using DSE, but users may experience temporary visual fatigue resulting in headaches, blurred vision and the adoption of bad posture.
All our assessments and recommendations are carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 as amended by the Health and Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2002. HSE Books 2003 (ISBN 7176 2582 6).
